Audi Shark - The Flying Car of the Future

Winner of the World Auto Design Contest 2009, the Italian competition Domus Academy which awards the most innovative in the automotive scene, the Audi Shark promises to be one of the most exciting cars of the future. The designer Karim Doku inspired by motorcycles and airplanes to create a 3D model of a futuristic car that has no wheels and is capable of flying.

Reinterpretation of the language, Audi born a vehicle that lives up to its name. Their sharp edges, its structure, the matte finish and very gray make it resemble a shark, and Audi Shark aspires to be so on the road.

In subsequent appendages that look like a tail and looks that complement the environment while ensuring speed and stability, has other interesting features. Recalling his inspirations, the door not only differs from a plane that wraps itself around the cockpit an d the two places where this unusual sports car put passengers in a very comfortable position.

It features underwater allied himself with a modern aesthetic where either the headlights or the rear, are composed of LED units mounted on plastic tubes. The end result is plain: a conceptual vehicle similar to a flying submarine.

Todos os componentes são de primeira: conjunto de suspensões Öhlins, freios Brembo de competição e rodas com aros de alumínio forjado de cinco raios. O novo modelo recebeu ajustes de chassi e câmbio, favorecendo ainda mais uma tocada esportiva.

Vale lembrar que a marca britânica anunciou o início de operações próprias no Brasil para o primeiro semestre desse ano.

Fiat Freemont ganha tração integral na Europa

Modelo será vendido em duas versões de acabamento

A Fiat começou a vender o Freemont com tração integral na Europa. O crossover produzido no México pode ter a opção de motor 2.0 turbodiesel de 170 cv de potência ou Pentastar 3.6 V6 a gasolina que entrega 280 cv.
Ambos são acoplados a uma transmissãoautomática de seis velocidades.

Chamado de Freemont AWD, o crossover trabalha em modo normal com tração dianteira. Quando há perda de contato com o solo, as rodas traseiras entram em funcionamento.

O crossover será vendido em duas versões com tração integral: Urban, que sai por 32.750 euros e vem com rodas de 17 polegadas, ar-condicionado digital, tela touch para a central multimídia e rack no teto, e Lounge, por 34.750 euros, que acrescenta rodas aro 19, bancos em couro com aquecimento, GPS, câmera traseira e som Alpine.

Peugeot vai trazer 308 CC e 508 para o Brasil

Futuros lançamentos aparecem em relatório do Inmetro

Foi sem querer, mas o Inmetro acabou revelando dois dos futuros lançamentos da Peugeot para 2012. O relatório do Programa de Etiquetagem Veicular 2012, que mede o consumo urbano e rodoviário de 105 modelos de oito marcas participantes, mostra que os modelos 308 CC e 508 foram avaliados pelo instituto.

O 308 CC é o sucessor do antigo 307 CC e chega ao mercado brasileiro ainda neste ano, provavelmente poucos meses após a estreia do 308 hatch, que será apresentado à imprensa em fevereiro e deve chegar às lojas em março. O conversível conta com o motor 1.6 THP, dotado de turbocompressor e já usado no crossover 3008, no esportivo RCZ e no sedã 408.

Já o 508 pode desembarcar aqui até o fim do primeiro semestre de 2012. Substituto do finado 407, ele chega para ser a opção mais luxuosa da linha Peugeot no Brasil. O 508 é maior que o 408 e será importado para nosso país também com o motor 1.6 THP.

Para infelicidade da Peugeot, nenhum dos dois modelos teve boas avaliações no estudo do Inmetro: tanto o 308 CC quanto o 508 receberam nota D.

The PAL version of Gran Turismo 5 Prologue will feature the red Ferrari Formula 1 car (a Scuderia Ferrari F2007) that Kimi Raikkononen drove to world championship victory last year. You can only get the car in the Ferrari dealership in the game for two million game credits. You’ll be driving it with 70 other cars on six tracks (High Speed Ring, Daytona, Fuji Speedway, Eiger Nordwand from Gran Turismo HD Concept, Suzuka Circuit and a section of central London), when Gran Turismo 5: Prologue will be released in Australia on March 27th, Europe on March 28th and later in the U.S. on April 17th.

The Snake is back! It seems that 2012 may be the best year for muscle cars. After FIAT entered the Chrysler owner’s club the Dodge Viper was announced to be back in 2012. There’s a little detail on the new Viper’s features, but the new styling is still Viper-like, but with noticeable Italian design cues. The Snake will probably have all-aluminum V10 engine developing about 600 HP. Dodge SEO Ralph Gilles ended said: “You’ll see the new Viper June 2012 as a 2013 model. That’s a promise.”
There are rumors that the next generation Viper will only be an Alfa Romeo 8C with restyled front end. Let’s hope FIAT will only add their styling cues and will improve current V10 with their Ferrari technologies.

Suzuki's long-awaited 2010 Suzuki Kizashi sedan is just starting to make its way to Suzuki dealerships, but that hasn't stopped the tuners from scoring a few Kizashis to dress up for the 2009 SEMA show. Here's a look at four customized Kizashis that will be on the floor at SEMA.

Road Race Motorsports has been making race cars out of Suzukis for a long time, so it's no surprise they got their hands on the Kizashi as fast as they could in order to create their Platinum Edition Kizashi. Digging in, they added a custom intake system, engine management system, Zeitronix data logging system and a custom dual exhaust. They then stiffened up the chassis and added Progress Technology springs and sway bars to take care of the handling and Rotora 13-in. brakes up front to handle stopping duties and complement their own Road Race 10.2-in. rear brakes.
Performance work done, Road Race turned their attention to the Kizashi's appearance, which they upgraded with their Sport Body kit. The kit includes Carbontrix custom front and rear fascias and a rear diffuser, to which they also added a custom grille, vented hood, and blacked-out roof. "Platinum Edition" graphics finish the package and let everyone know this is no ordinary Kizashi.

Also quick to snap up a Kizashi was Delta Tech Engineering, which also had its sights set on performance. They started by stripping the car and lightening it as much as possible. Under the hood, they fitted a cold air intake and custom exhaust to up performance while Koni provided new coilover shocks and springs to upgrade the handling. RK Sport, meanwhile, came up with a new body kit for the car while Katzkin took care of new seats and Kenwood supplied a new stereo system. Delta Tech finished off the car with custom HID and LED lighting it developed in-house for this project.

Fusing East and West, Westside Auto Group drew inspiration from both the Suzuki Hayabusa motorcycle and vintage European style for its Kizashi Soleil (Soleil is French for "masculine sun," a nod to the Kizashi's Japanese heritage). Up front, Westside created a new fascia, grille and air intakes, then moved around the side and shaved the door handles. Reaching the rear of the car, they added a custom rear fascia housing a custom Yoshimura exhaust and a GT Super Car spoiler. R-Worx seven-spoke wheels wrapped in early-release Bridgestone Potenza tires and two-tone Napa Merlot/Bronzed Amber paint complete the package.

Designed and crafted by Advanced Product Engineering, the fully built and modified Kizashi recently ran a record-breaking 203.301 mph at this year's Bonneville Speed Week. To accomplish this feat, engineers boosted power to well over 500 horsepower with help of a massive Turbonetics turbocharger bolted onto a highly reworked engine (with upgraded internals, cooling, fuel, and lubrication systems). Of course, safety is a priority when travelling this fast, so the team installed a rollcage, aluminum rear bulkhead, racing seat, harness, window net, and fire suppression system.

It appears Stasis' tuned Audi R8 won't be the only European supercar to grace the Specialty Equipment Market Association show. Oakley Design, a firm noted mainly for tuning Porsches, revealed today it plans on bringing a customized Ferrari 458 Italia to next week's trade show.
Although Oakley has previously been tied to various Porsche projects, the company recently expanded its offerings to the new 458. In stock form, the Italia's 4.5-liter V-8 cranks out an impressive 570 horsepower and 398 pound-feet of torque, but Oakley's team believed they could improve upon Maranello's design. With a new intake system and a remapped engine computer, Oakley claims it was able to coax another 48 ponies and 20 pound-feet from the engine, bringing output to 618 horsepower and 418 pound-feet.
According to the tuner, the extra power helps thrust the 458 from 0-60 mph in a scant 3.0 seconds -- four-tenths of a second quicker than a stock Italia -- and to a top speed above the 205 mph mark. To help the driver retain control of the car at such speeds, Oakley's custom front and rear spoilers create an extra 99 and 55 pounds of downforce, respectively.

To help set apart its 458 from stock cars, Oakley scrapped the standard five-spoke wheel in favor of giant HRE forged rims, which are both lighter and wider than the original hardware. Additionally, Oakley's blacked out portions of the A-pillar, roof, and decklid, allowing the 458's curved roofline to resemble a fighter jet's bubble canopy.
Oakley plans on building five 458s itself, one of which will be at SEMA next week. For those who already own a 458 but desire some of Oakley's touches, fear not -- the tuning shop insists it will offer these performance and cosmetic upgrades a la carte.

Mazda has turned to its motorsports arm for its official 2009 SEMA Show factory efforts, creating a special edition Mazdaspeed3 and a 2.5L Mazda3, both of which take cues from the Mazda3 World Challenge racecar. Both 3s wear Crystal White Pearl, grey graphics, and details painted in black. Mazda says the design is a rework of the livery on the infamous 787B that took Le Mans in 1991.
Tri-Point Engineering, which races its own pair of Mazdas in the World Challenge series, upgraded the powertrain on the 2.5L Mazda3. With a Garrett GT2871R turbocharger pumping 10 psi, Mazda claims the mill sends 250-hp to the front wheels, and that the tune isn't finished yet. The Mazdaspeed3 gets only an AEM intake, but it's good for a claimed 20-hp boost.

The Speed3 lends its front brakes to the 2.5L 3. In return, it gets four-piston Stoptech calipers and floating two-piece rotors. Suspension upgrades consist of KW Suspension coilovers with modified top mounts on the front struts to increase camber.
The 2.5L 3, with the Speed3's brakes up front and Mazda5 brakes out back, gets a Tri-Point rear stabilizer bar and adjustable KW coilovers. Both cars sit on 19-in. wheels with Bridgestone Potenza RE050A rubber from the RX-8 R3.

After seeing what customizers did with cars like the Chrysler 300 and Cadillac Escalade, Ford is offering up its own luxury cars from the Lincoln brand for the full SEMA treatment.

rue to its name, Raceskinz re-skinned the MKS with more carbon-fiber trim inside and out than you can shake a stick at. That includes dash and door trim, a new roof, fog light bezels, mirror caps, a rear diffuser, a rear spoiler, side door moldings, antenna cover, license plate frames, and more done up in carbon fiber. Raceskinz promises that the carbon treatment is tasteful and not overdone, though the laundry list of add-ons worries us. A custom rear center console and high-powered LIIV entertainment system complete the package.

3dCarbon went nice and simple with its MKZ and added a new rear spoiler and rear roof spoiler, stainless steel door moldings and exhaust tips, and 20-in. TSW wheels wrapped in low-profile tires to the exterior. Jazzing up the engine is a Magnaflow exhaust that helps it breathe and sound better.

Without question, the highlight of Lexus' display at next week's SEMA show will be the 552-hp, mostly carbon fiber LFA. The nearly $400,000 exotic, which will have a production run of just 500, will play halo car over the pack of six tuners Lexus is bringing. Show attendees get to ogle, drool, and complain about the price -- never mind that they're not buying one -- with the sheet metal in view (read our First Drive of the LFA here, including VIDEO).

Highlighting Lexus' factory accessory line are two cars: the GS 350 and IS 350C F-Sport by TRD. Both wear an unmissable "Vibrance Orange Glow" paint job, and the full line of F-Sport accessories, including 19-in forged wheels, upgraded brakes, lowering springs, and shocks. Five Axis supplies the body kits for both.

Three more IS 350Cs will be on display, varying widely in tune. We've already seen Fox Marketing's supercharged drop-top, which boasts "Foxy Green" paint, a Seibon carbon fiber rear wing, iForged Sprint wheels, adjustable coilovers, and bodywork borrowed from an IS F. The IS C by 0-60 Magazine and Design Craft Fabrication boasts a GReddy exhaust and ECU, Advan Racing wheels, Brembo brakes, KW suspension, and a Ings+1 body kit. VIP Auto Salon and JTuned.com teamed up to make a "Matador Red" IS C. It's more of a low-key approach -- certainly when compared to the cars surrounding it -- that wears a carbon fiber hood and spoiler, exhaust and intake, and Work wheels. Lexus says the upgrades amounted to a mere $15,000.
David Huang IS 300 Front Three Quarters View
On the other end of the spectrum is David Huang's IS 300, which rounds out Lexus' SEMA efforts. Huang apparently dropped more than $100,000 on upgrading the sedan. Results? A claimed 1000-hp from its tuned 2JZ-GTE mill. Huang's "IS 1000," as it's been dubbed, sports "Midnight Purple" paint, Work 20-inch wheels, brakes from Endless, Zeal coilovers, HKS sway bars, and a Kansai rear strut tower bar.

Cadillac may offer the CTS in three different body styles, but last we checked, a soft-top convertible isn't in the works. Fortunately for those hankering for a Caddy with a chopped-off top, Drop Top Customs is already working on building such a creation for the 2010 SEMA show.
DTC isn't a stranger to either custom convertibles or the SEMA show. Founded nearly three decades ago, the company has converted all sorts of production hardtops into fully functional convertibles. DTC received plenty of attention at SEMA two years back, when it helped craft a convertible Challenger that won a design award from Chrysler. Another creation, a Chevrolet Camaro convertible, also received plenty of attention at last year's show.

Presently, DTC offers a convertible version of the four-door CTS, but for this year's SEMA show, it's working on crafting a ragtop CTS coupe. CEO Jeff Moran tells us he thinks the rakish roofline of the coupe will work much better as a drop top. If the completed conversion holds true to DTC's renderings, we'll agree.
Moran says he expects to receive a stock CTS coupe "any day now," and doesn't expect the build process to take very long. If all goes according to plan, DTC expects to offer two-door CTS convertibles to customers starting this fall.

2011 Hyunda Sonata Turbo Sema Render Rear Three Quarters
Joining Hyundai's ARK Performance Genesis Coupe time attack car at this year's SEMA Show will be a pearl white 2011 Sonata Turbo built with luxury and style in mind. Unfortunately, this is the only teaser image we received from Hyundai.
Fabricators say that Mercedes-Benz, Ferrari, and Porsche sports cars inspired their design direction. Its aggressive exterior lines, for example, take much from the Brabus CLS Rocket. The car rides on 20-inch one-piece wheels as well, much like the Rocket.
Inside, "strategically placed stitched leather" like that of the Ferrari F430 wraps nearly every interior surface. Carbon fiber accents add more sportiness to the Korean car's repertoire.
Under the hood, engineers added an upgraded turbo, exhaust, and intake systems. No word on power output, but it should be considerably more than the stock 2.0-liter four-cylinder turbo's 274 horsepower.

Ford unveiled its brand-new 2011 Explorer earlier this year and is hoping the serious redesign will help boost the SUV's sales. One way in which the company hopes to show the vehicle's potential is with three customized Explorers it will show at SEMA.

"It's so new and reinvented, and the styling is standout from the inside out," Craig Patterson, marketing manager for the new Explorer, said. "Explorer is the perfect choice for people to accessorize. Those who want to customize it are starting from a great base that is extremely well received, and that's where the attraction lies."
Ford is certainly pulling out the stops to give people ideas on how to accessorize the new Explorer as no less than three different SUVs will be on Ford's SEMA stand. One of those Explorers, with its 24-inch, three-piece, billet aluminum wheels and blacked-out lower trim, is designed to appeal to the urban crowd. The SUV is done by Ford's partner in crime Funkmaster Flex along with Team Baurtwell. The interior has also been modified with a Katzkin two-tone leather interior and high-end sound system.

The second Explorer to be shown at SEMA is done by Galpin Auto Sports and takes the Explorer's luxury to a new level "that even James Bond would enjoy." It's no surprise that Ford mentions James Bond as that was GAS's inspiration in creating the car. The Explorer is done in a custom silver exterior color with custom lights and 24-inch wheels. Special care was also taken in the interior with a suede and leather headliner and matching seats. An iPad has also been added as rear-seat entertainment.

The 2011 Dodge Charger finally made its grand debut late Tuesday at the 2010 SEMA Show as the Redline Charger by Mopar Underground. Though thinly disguised with Mopar performance and dress-up parts, it's the real, production-spec Charger underneath, and it promises to be a good one.
Some of the biggest news for the new Charger is under its hood. Dodge has confirmed to Motor Trend that the new 3.6-liter Pentastar V-6 will produce 305 horsepower in the Charger and Challenger. Though it and the carryover 370-horsepower 5.7-liter V-8 will only be available with the old five-speed automatic transmission at first, an eight-speed automatic is on the way. Interestingly enough, the Redline Charger is equipped with a prototype flat-bottomed steering wheel with paddle shifters. When pressed about the possibility of getting paddles on the production car, the Dodge folks would only say "wait and see."
Though it may look rather similar to the old Charger in pictures, up close you can tell just how different it is. In fact, Dodge says the only thing really carried over from the old car was the floor pan. The new nose is more aggressive and the Redline Charger show car features a new lower fascia and hood to make it even angrier. Around the sides, the scallops in the doors are a nice throwback to Chargers of old and make the car much more visually interesting. This car features some add-on ducts that fit in the scallops that, like all of the show car's body modifications, may one day end up in the Mopar catalog. Around back, a massive spoiler rides above the new 172-LED taillight fixture that makes the car unmistakable. Big aftermarket wheels are present, per SEMA law.
Dodge CEO Ralph Gillies boasted to the crowd that the new interior "will make Audi jealous," and it's not quite as audacious as it sounds. Inside, the Mopar crew finished the interior in red Katzkin leather and they tell us they have developed a nice relationship with Katzkin that could result in more partnerships in the future. The interior as a whole is vastly improved, both in design and materials quality. All Chargers will get a trick touchscreen in the dash handling HVAC, stereo, nav and more, though more expensive models will get larger screens. The new thick-rimmed three-spoke steering wheel feels good in your hands and has much more user-friendly controls. Behind it, Dodge took their time to craft some handsome watch-like gauges. They topped it all off by putting seat heaters on not only the front seats but both outer rear seats.

Witness the Chevrolet Corvette Z06X and Camaro SS X concepts: built in partnership with Pratt & Miller for the 2010 SEMA show, these two show stoppers are GM's vision of the ultimate track machines.

It's hard to find fault with the basic premise of a Corvette Z06, but designers simply took the best of the production car while adding features to help it 'round a road course. The Z06X concept is built upon a production 2011 Z06 fitted with both the vaulted Z07 performance package and the CFZ Carbon Fiber option group.
From there, GM added a low-restriction air intake, along with a heavy-duty radiator and an improved cooling system. Engineers also tinkered with the suspension setup, adding mono-ball control arm bushings, adjustable stabilizer bars, and coil-over struts with adjustable camber plates. Brembo carbon-ceramic brake rotors are part of the stock Z07 package, but lightweight racing wheels, finished in a dark hue and capped with Michelin racing rubber -- sized 285/30R19 up front and 335/25R20 at rear -- are unique to the Z06X.

That black finish ties well with the Z06X's exterior design. Although all body parts are essentially stock, GM painted the car in a Icy White Metallic color, adding a black racing stripe and rear fascia, along with red accents. Inside, the Z06X's interior is gutted of interior trim and insulation, allowing the installation of an SCCA-approved roll cage, fire suppression system, a racing seat for the driver, and a five-point harness. To help further strip the car of weight, the rear hatch glass has been replaced with a custom polycarbonate window.

Chevrolet's Camaro SS X concept abides by the same formula applied to the Z06X, although a few extra modifications were required to help turn the bulky muscle machine into a satisfying road racer.

Outside, the SS X shares the Z06X's design theme, sporting the same black-on-white paint scheme as its fiberglass-bodied relative. In a move to strip weight, GM replaced the hood, fenders, doors, and deck lid with panels fabricated from carbon fiber. For aerodynamic purposes, a carbon fiber front splitter, rocker panels, and adjustable rear wing were also added to the package.
Underhood, the SS X retains the Camaro's stock 6.2-liter LS3 V-8, although it's been massaged with a new camshaft, revised cylinder heads, and a dry-sump oil system. The six-speed transmission is stock Getrag fare, although it is fitted with a twin-disc clutch raided from the Corvette ZR1 parts bin. 20-inch wheels and racing tires are added, and are stopped courtesy of an upgraded four-wheel-brake system, which includes six-piston front calipers, four-piston rear calipers, and slotted rotors at each corner.

As is the case with the Z06X, the Camaro SS X's interior isn't exactly conducive for commuting. Carpeting, insulation, interior trim, and other parts -- including the rear seat -- have been gutted to shave weight and make room for some serious racing hardware. An SCCA-spec roll cage, window net, race seat, and five-point harness are added, along with racing pedals, a fire suppression system, and fuel cell.
Although we'd love to see the SS X enter a revived Trans-Am series, these two cars have little, if any, chance of entering production. Which bowtie show car comes closest to serving as your dream track machine?

As usual, Chrysler's accessory design teams are hard at work crafting a number of vehicles for the 2010 Specialty Equipment Market Association show, but it appears the automaker has at least one production vehicle lined up for the event as well. Dodge announced today that the 2011 Challenger SRT8 392 Inaugural Edition will make its first public appearance at the SEMA show in early November.
As previously reported, all 2011 Challenger SRT8 models receive a little more power. The 6.1-liter Hemi V-8 was bored out to 6.4-liters, and, according to Dodge brand CEO Ralph Gilles, tuned to deliver more low-end torque than peak horsepower. Dodge rates the new engine at 470 horsepower and 470 pound-feet of torque. For those keeping score, that's roughly 45 horsepower and 50 pound-feet more than what the current 6.1-liter engine cranks out.
Other changes for 2011 SRT8 cars include revived damper valving, new suspension geometry, quicker steering ratios, and an SRT-tuned hydraulic steering pump, which reportedly delivers better feel and response when compared to the last design. Exterior revisions are limited largely to new door handles, a new front splitter design, and a conspicuous lack of the brand's former ram's head logo.

To celebrate the new refinements, Dodge's crafted the 392 Inaugural Edition. Buyers will have their choice of two exterior paint schemes -- Deep Water Blue with white stripes, or Bright White with Viper Blue stripes -- capped off with unique 20-inch SRT wheels, quad exhaust tips, and unique 392 emblems. Inside, Inaugural cars receive unique white leather seat skins, complete with blue stitching and insert stripes, along with embroidered logos on the front headrests.
We've yet to see finalized pricing for the new Challenger SRT8 392 Inaugural Edition, but Dodge has capped production at 1492 cars. Expect Inaugural cars to command a slight price premium over standard Challenger SRT8 392 mndels once both arrive at dealers nationwide in the fourth quarter of 2010.

Chevrolet is matching the 2011 Camaro's natural flash with three eye-catching nearly production-ready variants for the SEMA show, which starts this week.
his year's SEMA show will serve as the launch of Chevrolet's new 2011 Synergy Series Camaro. Remember the bright-green V-6 2010 Camaro Synergy edition? Every year, Chevy will release a new Synergy special-edition Camaro.
The difference for the 2011 car is that you can now choose the V-8 as well as the V-6. Four exterior colors will be offered: Cyber Gray, Victory Red, Summit White, and Black.
What sets the Synergy Camaro apart from an ordinary 2011 Camaro is the exclusive gray interior with red accent stitching. The 2011 Camaro Synergy Series, Chevy says, will provide a mix of exterior and interior accessories not available on other models.

The Synergy show car will sport 21-inch silver-painted wheels -- optional on the production cars -- and a ground effects package you'll find on the showroom Synergy Camaros. The Pedders lowering kit is a licensed Camaro accessory, but it isn't included in the real Synergy edition. Get your own 2011 Synergy Camaro in the first half of 2011.
With the Red Flash Camaro show car, Chevy's mission was clear: make the Camaro as visually arresting as possible. Gray strips are placed atop the Red Jewel color and, of course, 21-inch wheels fill the wheel wells. A Chevrolet Accessory air intake kit and exhaust kit make clear this Camaro has show and go.
Inside, there's a flat-bottom steering wheel and red LED lighting in the door trim. Power comes from a 6.2-liter V-8 mated to a six-speed manual transmission.
The most affordable of the street-ready Camaros is the unimaginatively named XM/Accessory appearance package.
"Our intent was to create a special, customized model -- including 21-inch wheels -- that could be had for around $30,000," said Russ Clark, director of Chevrolet product marketing.

With that in mind, it shouldn't be a surprise that this Camaro is a V-6 model with black cloth seats. A rear spoiler, unique grille, and 21-inch wheels are included in the package, which will be available in production form in the spring of 2011.
One year of XM satellite radio is also part of the deal whereas other Camaros only have a three-month trial period. The XM/Accessory appearance package Camaro you see here also has concept car details you won't see on the production model. That includes a cold air intake system and a Chevrolet Accessory interior trim kit in Silver Ice.

emerging electric mobility agenda, and it's Smart Forspeed concept for the 2011 Geneva auto show is no exception.
The Forspeed's rear wheels are propelled by a 30-kW (40-horsepower) electric motor, the same setup found in the Smart Fortwo ElectricDrive. Smart has included a so-called overboost function, which reportedly allows drivers to cue up an extra 7 horsepower for short blasts by pushing a button on the dashboard. Power is drawn from the same 16.5-kWh lithium-ion battery pack as in the Smart ED, giving the Forspeed a theoretical range of 81 miles to a single charge.
While the electric drivetrain is rooted in reality, the Forspeed's styling is not. Bearing some resemblance to the wild Crossblade concept and special-edition model from earlier this decade, the Forspeed does without a roof or windscreen. Shy of donning full-face helmets, occupants receive protection from the elements by means of a chopped wrap-around windscreen and -- unlike the Crossblade -- full door panels.
Like Smart's recent electric bike concepts, the ForSpeed's exterior lighting is LED-based. The lamps aren't traditional projector-style assemblies, however. Instead, designers placed LED pipes radiating from a body-colored center. The outermost rods change color to act as turn signals, and similar lighting placed around the exterior power port, help display the vehicle's charge status.
The Forspeed's safety cell wraps into the double-bubble roll bars, and then flows down into the cabin, where it serves as the car's center console. Designers trimmed the interior in a matching, matte white hue to match the exterior paint, but liberally applied green accents to hint at the eco-friendly properties of the car's drivetrain. A minimalist two-pod dashboard places a speedometer in front of the driver, and a smartphone-based nav system dead ahead of the passenger. According to Smart, the latter can be swiveled 90 degrees to let the driver view the map.
Although a small quantity of Crossblades were offered to the public, Daimler doesn't plan on pushing the Forspeed into even limited production. Even so, the brand says to expect some of the concept's design cues to be incorporated into future Smart product offerings.

GENEVA -- Saab's Dutch chairman and CEO, Victor Muller, probably doesn't know and certainly doesn't care that to us, the Phoenix is a Pontiac compact from the '70s and '80s. He's named ex-Ferrari designer Jason Castriota's 9-3-sized concept hatchback coupe "Phoenix," a celebration of Saab's rising from the ashes of the GM sale. Company President Jan-Ake Jonsson called last week's celebration of the one-year anniversary of Saab's separation from General Motors "Independence Day."
The Phoenix seems too stylized to say much about Saab's design future under Castriota, whom Muller announced as his new chief designer, at last year's show. The Phoenix has much more surface tension than the Saab Aero concepts designed under GM. As good-looking as those Aeros were, they now look like the bubble-wrap the Phoenix came in. The car may be a bit busy, but it is gorgeous, and hints that if nothing else, Castriota plans to use early Saab raindrop shapes as a design theme. It has been designed as a 2+2 coupe. The tail, with its many LED taillamp bulbs, looks like something designed for Spyker. While there's no sign on the Saab stand of Muller's 9-2 design proposal, the Phoenix concept riffs off its raindrop shape. Castriota calls the design theme for a "sporty three-door hatch" the "aero-motional" aesthetic, and the inspiration for the 9-5 and 9-4x. The Phoenix has a 1.6-liter turbo four rated 200 horsepower, Saab's new "V" all-wheel-drive system developed with supplier American Axle, and a Google Android-based Icon infotainment system.
Muller has designated Phoenix as the name for Saab's flexible architecture, which debuts under the new 9-3 he promises for calendar 2012. The car started with GM's Epsilon platform, but Saab has made enough changes to call the platform its own, or Phoenix, and the new 9-3 "will show to you what an independent Saab organization can do."
Muller calls the coming Saabs, including the 9-5 SportKombi unveiled here, as "drivers cars" that will emphasize small-displacement, turbocharged engines. Muller has just sold his interest in, and Saab's connection to, Spyker, the independent sports carmaker that made it possible for Muller and his investors to buy Saab to Russian entrepreneur Viktor Antonov. Muller says he proposed the sale to Saab's board so the small sports carmaker could raise additional cash. If Muller and his board had held on to their interest in Spyker, he said, their shares would have been diluted to the point at which they would have lost control.
So automaker Muller has gone from being an automaker who made something like 300 cars in a full decade to an automaker who can build 80,000 per year. That's how many Saabs were sold worldwide in its first full year of independence. Eighty thousand per year, globally, would be total failure for most mainstream automakers. In its first year of independence, Saab has managed, one way or another, to stay out of the mainstream.

Swedish automaker Saab went through a bit of a rough patch in 2009, but has since introduced two strong, new products as part of its resurgence. And it's just announced it will officially unveil another at the 2011 Geneva Motor Show in the form of the new 9-5 SportCombi.
We're rather impressed with Saab's new 9-5 sedan, having sampled a number of them in various trim levels and expect similar of the SportCombi. It features the same chassis setup with Saab's DriveSense adaptive chassis control that allows the driver to switch between three chassis settings -- comfort, intelligent, and sport. Intelligent mode is actually intelligent as it learns your driving style and adapts to it. Saab's torque-vectoring, XWD all-wheel-drive system is also available along with adaptive headlights, adaptive cruise control, push-button starting, tri-zone climate control, and a heads-up display.
The interior carries over from the 9-5 sedan as well, which means it'll feature the same soft-touch materials and well-appointed seats as the sedan. Overall, we found the interior a very nice place to sit, if a bit dreary in all black -- lighter parchment and gray leather colors are available as well to lighten the mood.
Powertrains are another carry over from the 9-5 sedan, with a choice of a 2.0-liter, turbocharged I-4 or a turbo, 2.8-liter V-6. Both engines are more than adequate for the sedan, but we actually found the I-4 more to our liking because of the availability of a precise six-speed manual transmission and the absence of some 800 extra pounds on the V-6 models. Front-wheel-drive is standard -- along with the manual -- with the I-4 with all-wheel-drive available as an option. Saab's excellent, XWD all-wheel-drive is standard on V-6 models as is a six-speed automatic transmission with paddle shifters.
As you've probably noticed, the only real difference then between the sedan and SportCobmi is bodystyle. The SportCombi features the same Aero X-inspired front-end styling as the sedan, just with a wagon-profile, complete with Saab's signature wraparound rear windshield, for added versatility. Replacing the trunk with a true wagon-style rear hatch means that total cargo capacity is around 56 cubic feet with the seats down and 19 cubic feet with the seats up. The sedan's trunk will swallow roughly 18 cubic feet worth of gear. Additionally, Saab has installed what it calls a smart tailgate, which allows owners' to select how far the tailgate will open, saving the hatch from opening too far when inside a parking garage.
Unlike a number of other automakers -- BMW and Volvo notably -- that have pulled out of the U.S. wagon market, Saab is bringing the 9-5 SportCombi to the U.S. It will launch this August, but a spokesperson said in reduced trim levels and likely only the top-of-the-line Aero version. If this holds true, it will only be offered with the 2.8-liter, turbocharged V-6 and six-speed automatic transmission -- unfortunate as we'd love to be able to row our own gears in a 9-5 wagon. Look for pricing and full model selection to be announced closer to the car's on sale date.

An all-new Saab 9-3 is still several years away, but in the meantime, the newly independent Swedish automaker will unveil its revised 2012 9-3 line at the 2011 Geneva auto show.
What's new? Let's start underhood. Power continues to be provided by a turbocharged 2.0-liter I-4, but the General Motors-sourced engines receive variable valve timing, direct fuel injection, twin-scroll turbochargers, and E85 capability for the 2012 model year. Top-end Aero models are rated at 210 horsepower, but engines fitted to entry-level Turbo4 cars see their output dialed back to 163 horsepower. Both forms, however, can be paired with a six-speed manual or automatic transmission, and can be coupled with Saab's Haldex-sourced XWD all-wheel-drive system. We've been given no word yet on fuel economy ratings, but the outgoing 2.0-liter turbo had a combined EPA city/highway rating between 20 and 24 mpg, depending on transmission and drivetrain.
Outside of the engine compartment, the modest upgrades are sprinkled about the car to visually bring the 9-3 into line with the new 9-5 and 9-4x. Up front, the 2012 9-3 receives new trapezoidal lower air intakes, a larger Saab script logo, and blue-tinted headlamps. The rear end receives a script emblem in place of the company's traditional griffin logo, while sedan models receive a standard decklid spoiler across the board. 16-inch wheels are standard across the line, although XWD models do receive 17-inch rims. Buyers will have a choice of new optional 17- and 18-inch wheels, including some patterned after the 9-5's turbine design.

The EX moniker - and the red RR badging - has been used by Rolls-Royce to distinguish what the company calls "experimental" models since 1919. And while Henry Royce started his career as an electrical engineer and Charles Rolls spoke favorably of electric vehicles before his death in1910, there's never been a Rolls-Royce as experimental as this Phantom electric vehicle.
Rolls-Royce owners can easily afford to pay high gas guzzler taxes, aren't concerned about soaring fuel prices, and don't care whether London continues to exempt electric vehicles from its daily congestion charge. And in truth, with annual sales of less than 1000 vehicles the Phantom's contribution to global oil consumption and greenhouse gas emissions is an almost immeasurable fraction of that made by the 72 million cars and light trucks sold around the world last year.
But as the big, opulent Phantom is seen by some as a symbol of excess rather success, the 102EX is really more about symbolism than saving the planet. Ironically, an electric-powered Phantom makes a lot of sense, on several levels. First, the characteristics of an electric powertrain -- abundant low-end torque, plus unparalleled smoothness and silence -- have been the hallmarks of Rolls-Royce engines since the 1907 Silver Ghost. Second, most current Phantom owners don't actually drive their cars that far, averaging somewhere between 1000 and 2000 miles a year, according to Rolls-Royce communications director Richard Carter.

Renault has dropped initial renderings and information on its upcoming concept vehicle for the 2011 Geneva Motor Show, a sporty two-door crossover dubbed Captur. The automaker's CEO, Carlos Ghosn, claims that the boldly styled Captur is "ideal for a young couple to discover the world."
Range Rover's upcoming Evoque may be to blame for much of the two-door crossover craze, but the Captur takes styling elements to a whole new level. The 'butterfly' doors would look at home on a supercar concept, while the low, flat hood and arched front fenders are clearly borrowed from sports car design textbooks. A wrap-around windscreen almost recalls Hyundai's Veloster, but expect the space-age translucent interior that uses reconfigurable ropes to dictate the shape and size of the cargo area to be toned down, should the Captur make production. The wildest feature may be the roof, which is actually a removable hardtop. Yes, the Captur can be driven as a convertible. The Captur's framework is carbon fiber, and 22-inch wheels are fitted.
Power comes from Renault's Energy dCi 160 twin-turbo diesel engine concept, which the French automaker says produces 160 horsepower from its 1.6 liters and is connected to a dual-clutch EDC gearbox. Renault's RX2 differential, a self-locking mechanical unit, is fitted to the front-wheel-drive Captur to transfer more power to the wheel with most grip. Captur is also fitted with Renault's Visio-System, a front-facing camera that monitors road conditions to provide driver assistance functions. The Captur can seat up to four people, with two full-size rear seats that can be folded out from the interior side panels.

Nada de eso, está muy lejos de lo que acabo de decir: esta belleza infartante (que no puedo dejar de mirar) es nada menos que un coche más que exótico fabricado en Marruecos! Su nombre? Laraki Fulgura. Bestial!

Lo conocen? Muchos de ustedes lo deben haber visto en imágenes, ya que se trata de un automóvil que hace tiempo está rondando por Internet y por algunas calles del planeta. Pero, como a veces sucede, hay muchos súper-vehículos que se pasan desapercibidos y, luego de años de su salida, nos topamos con ellos en esta interminable red. Pero, no importa, siempre es momento para retomar el tiempo perdido: el Fulgura es un coche que fue fabricado entre el 2002 y el 2005 por la empresa Laraki Desing que tiene sede en Casablanca, la capital económica de Marruecos.

Esta maravilla motorizada posee un motor V12 de 5992 cc con cuatro turbos y 48 válvulas en posición central. Wow! Su potencia es, nada menos, que de 680 caballos enardecidos y su par de motor es de 750 Nm de torque. Esta maravilla africana trae consigo una caja de cambios secuencial de seis velocidades y su velocidad máxima es increíble: unos 350 km/h. A volar por el desierto! Pero aún hay más: cuando el Fulgura se topa con una carretera abandonada en medio de la nada, acelera de 0-100 km/h en solo 4.5 segundos! Muy bien!

Este coupé deportivo fue diseñado por Abdeslam Larak: un joven diseñador de yates que, luego de estudiar en Italia, regresó a Marruecos (su país de origen) para centrarse en el diseño náutico. Obviamente, su carrera dio un giro y en el 2002 presentó en el Salón de Ginebra un automóvil basado en el Lamborghini Diablo. Luego en el 2003 presentó en sociedad la versión de producción. Hoy, podemos decir que el Laraki Fulgura solo se comercializa bajo pedido.

Entonces qué hacemos? Y bueno, este es un sitio de automóviles… qué mejor que utilizar el de ustedes para seducir?

Señoras y señores (o señores y señores) hoy nos adentraremos en una pregunta tan universal como: por qué el cielo es azul o cuánto falta para que termine el primer tiempo del partido? Qué preguntas… lamentablemente los filósofos clásicos no pudieron responderlas: naturalmente, porque no había automóviles en la época de Platón y Aristóteles, pero gracias a Dios estamos nosotros, los buenos ciudadanos lectores de Internet, que podemos dar nuestras conclusiones. Qué opinan? Es necesario conducir una maquina infernal en 4 ruedas para que volteen cabezas las señoritas que caminan por la calle? Con tocar bocina y hacer un guiño desde dentro del vehículo es suficiente para conquistar corazones? Piensen amigos!

La respuesta, definitivamente es: no! No puedo decir que es suficiente con tener un Lamborghini para encontrar el amor… especialmente cuando hay un millar de personas abalanzándose en semejante vehículo para sacar fotos. En otras palabras, la actitud no la da un auto y tampoco puede haber un dialogo muy fluido desde dentro del vehículo en movimiento… para conocer mujeres hay que bajarse y seducir con la personalidad y recuerden: no pueden entrar con sus coches a la discoteca!
